Honda has signalled its intention to enter the electric mountain bike market, unveiling a new e-MTB prototype at Sea Otter Europe 2026 in Girona, Spain. The appearance marks a notable expansion for the world’s largest motorcycle manufacturer into a bicycle category already contested by established European and international brands.

Developed under the theme “New Terrain, Same Dream,” the prototype was presented alongside several examples of Honda’s two-wheel engineering, including the RN01 downhill race bike from the early 2000s, the CR Proto electric motocross machine and the RTL Electric trials bike. Multiple trials world champion Toni Bou has also tested the e-MTB, although Honda has not published performance results.

Technical specifications remain undisclosed. The company has yet to identify the motor and battery systems, frame geometry, suspension travel or final production name. Pricing, availability and the first markets in which the bike will be sold are also still to be announced.

Honda’s language nevertheless points beyond a purely exploratory concept. The company says further information will be shared in the lead-up to launch, suggesting that a commercial model is planned. Its arrival could add a major mobility brand to the premium e-MTB sector, but the bike’s position will depend on the drive system, dealer strategy and support network Honda ultimately chooses.
