Giant has given dealers a first look at its 2027 lineup, and the headline news for the SUV and trekking segment is a significantly more powerful drive unit. At an in-house show held at Giant Germany’s headquarters in Erkrath, the Taiwanese manufacturer presented the next-generation Explore E+, now built around the new SyncDrive Pro 3X mid-motor delivering up to 100 Nm of torque.
That figure puts Giant’s trekking flagship firmly in the same power bracket as the strongest systems from Bosch and DJI, signaling that the torque race is no longer limited to e-MTBs. Notably, Giant pairs the new motor with Enviolo’s stepless and automated hub gearing, positioning the Explore E+ as a low-maintenance, high-torque all-rounder — exactly the formula that defines the modern SUV e-bike.
According to the company, roughly 150 retail partners and around 400 total attendees visited the multi-day event, which also featured guided road, gravel, and e-MTB rides through the Neandertal region. Component partners Enviolo, TRP, and Maxxis presented alongside the Giant, Liv, and CADEX brands.
One side note from the show is worth watching: dealers and manufacturers reported growing demand for non-motorized trekking bikes in urban areas. Giant and Liv are responding with the belt-driven Anytour CS and Allure CS models. Whether that trend dents e-bike growth remains to be seen, but the beefed-up Explore E+ suggests Giant still sees powerful mid-motor trekking bikes as the core of the market.
